At Punxsutawney Area Hospital, the CARE Award recognizes employees who exemplify Compassion, Admirable qualities, Respect, and Excellence in everything they do. Established in 2023, the award honors team members whose dedication and service make a meaningful impact on patients, coworkers, and the community.
This year, PAH proudly recognizes Jennie Overly as a CARE Award recipient — a woman whose kindness, dedication, and commitment have touched countless lives throughout her nearly 20 years with the organization.
A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, Jennie graduated from Brookville High School before earning her Associate Degree in Medical Secretarial studies from DuBois Business College. Family has always been at the center of her life. She is married to her husband, Bill, whom she lovingly describes as “the Love of My Life.” Together, they have raised two wonderful daughters, Amber and Becky, and are proud grandparents to their grandson, Deegan.
Jennie’s journey at PAH has been one marked by flexibility, teamwork, and service. She began working nights on MedSurg and later stepped in wherever she was needed, including time spent helping in the Pharmacy during a maternity leave and assisting at the Counseling Center during vacations. Her willingness to support different departments demonstrates the true spirit of collaboration that helps make Punxsutawney Area Hospital successful.
As she approaches her 20th anniversary with PAH this August, Jennie says the people are what she treasures most about her career.
“My favorite thing about my job is the people,” she shared. “I have had the opportunity to meet many people from all walks of life, make long-time friends, and hopefully make someone’s day easier or better.”
When Jennie attended the National Hospital Week celebration, she believed she was simply there to give a speech her manager had asked her to prepare. Receiving the CARE Award was the last thing she expected.
“The CARE Award never crossed my mind,” Jennie said. “I was speechless. I am very honored and humbled to have been selected.”
She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support she received from family, coworkers, and friends.
“I feel very blessed for the support of my family, everyone who was there, the hugs, and the messages of congratulations,” she said.
Jennie also extended special thanks to everyone involved in organizing the surprise and celebration.
“Thank you very much for this award. Thank you to everyone who participated, organized, and stressed out about how to get me there!”
Jennie Overly represents everything the CARE Award was created to honor — compassion toward others, dedication to excellence, respect for patients and coworkers, and a commitment to making every day a little brighter for those around her.
Punxsutawney Area Hospital is proud to celebrate Jennie and thank her for two decades of outstanding service, kindness, and care. If you are interested in learning more about the CARE Award or making a nomination, please visit www.pah.org.
