The Punxsutawney Area Hospital and the Punxsutawney Rotary Club are gearing up for the Annual Multiphasic Blood Screening. The two dates for the screening are Saturday, July 13th and Saturday, July 20th. Both screenings will be held at the Punxsutawney High School, which is located at 500 North Findley Street.
The Punxsutawney Rotary Club and Punxsutawney Area Hospital have been hosting this annual screening for many years. It is an opportunity for members of the community and the surrounding region to participate in an extensive blood panel test. According to the Amercian Journal of Medical Sciences, "Routine blood tests are vital to prevention, diagnosis, and management of chronic diseases".  There is also an opportunity for additional tests that be added on to their base panel for an additional fee. These add on test options include: TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), A1C Hemoglobin (Blood Glucose), and PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen for male participants).  A complete listing of all the test and descriptions can be found on www.punxsyrotary.com and www.pah.org.
The results for all of the tests are sent directly to the Primary Care Provider the participant has identified on their registration information. Additionally at each event, the Punxsutawney Area Hospital will have information available about different services offered at PAH. Free blood pressure readings will be available for attendees. According to the 2021PAH Community Health Needs Assessment the Punxsutawney Community indicated that heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure were a major concern of the community. "Participating in the blood screening process is a great way to connect with your Primary Care Provider and gain an understand of what your overall wellness looks like" stated PAH Lab Supervisor, Lyndsay Miller.
Those wishing to participate in the screening must be pre-registered for the event. Registration for the event is now open and can be found by visiting www.punxsyrotary.com or by calling the Punxsutawney Rotary Club at 814-503-0664.
Questions can also be emailed to the Rotary Club at [email protected]. Mail in forms are available for download online or can be picked up at the information desk at the hospital.
