Dawn Fulton Honored with DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award

After more than four decades of compassionate nursing and unwavering dedication to mothers, babies, and families, Punxsutawney Area Hospital proudly honored Dawn Fulton, BSN, RN, with the prestigious DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.
The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes nurses whose careers have left an enduring impact on their patients, colleagues, and the profession. For Dawn, the recognition reflects more than 41 years of service devoted to providing exceptional care and creating lasting memories for countless families throughout the Punxsutawney community.
Dawn began her nursing career after graduating from the Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (now Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center) with her nursing diploma in June 1985. Demonstrating her lifelong commitment to learning, she later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Clarion University in May 2016.
She joined Punxsutawney Area Hospital on June 17, 1985, beginning her career on the Medical-Surgical Unit while also caring for pediatric patients. In August 1986, she transferred to Obstetrics, becoming a full-time OB nurse in 1987. Her leadership skills led her to become Charge Nurse in 1993, and in 2017 she was named Manager of the Expecting You Department.
For Dawn, nursing has always been about the privilege of caring for others during life's most meaningful moments.
"My favorite part of being an OB nurse is labor and delivery," Dawn shared. "Helping someone bring their new baby into the world is the most rewarding thing besides having my own children and grandchildren."
Throughout her career, Dawn has helped welcome generations of babies into the world, providing expert clinical care while offering comfort, reassurance, and compassion to growing families. Her calm presence, leadership, and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impression on patients and colleagues alike.
Paula Spack, RN, MSN, Vice President of Patient Care Services, praised Dawn's extraordinary contributions to Punxsutawney Area Hospital and the community.
"PAH is honored to award the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award to Dawn Fulton, RN, BSN, and OB Manager. Dawn has worked at PAH as a registered nurse for 41 years, with 37 of those years dedicated full-time to the Obstetrics Department. She has a passion for providing excellent nursing care for mothers and their babies and has served as Nurse Manager of the OB unit since 2017. Dawn has made a lasting impact on our patients, our staff, and the state of maternal and infant care at PAH in numerous ways. She has provided compassionate care for countless mothers and babies throughout her career, and we are incredibly grateful for her dedication and service."
Receiving the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award came as a complete surprise.
"Oh, absolutely," Dawn said when asked if she was surprised by the recognition.
The celebration was made even more special by the presence of her family, who gathered to honor her remarkable career. Joining Dawn were her husband, Jim; her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and BreAnna; granddaughters Audan and Addilynn; her parents, Jim and Martha Adams; her sister, Charmain Doran; her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Angie Adams; her niece, Danielle Adams; her mother-in-law, Mary Fulton; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Kim Fulton; great-niece and great-nephew, Everly and Tucker Fulton; and her nephew, Andrew Adams, who joined the celebration via FaceTime.
As Dawn prepares for retirement, she says the hardest part of leaving will be saying goodbye to the work and people she loves most.
"I will miss caring for the patients during labor and delivery and my co-workers," she said.
While Dawn's retirement marks the close of an extraordinary chapter, her legacy will continue through the thousands of families she has cared for, the nurses she has mentored, and the countless lives she has touched throughout her distinguished career.
